Natural language processing

Natural language processing is the field of AI that deals with understanding and generating human language.

In practice: It covers tasks like translation, summarisation, sentiment analysis, classification and question answering. Large language models are the current, most capable form of NLP, but simpler NLP still runs many spam filters, search engines and analytics tools.

Why it matters when picking a tool

When a tool says it uses NLP, ask what exactly it does with your text: classify it, summarise it, extract data or generate new text. The label alone tells you little about quality.
